Alleppey - The most beautiful backwaters and houseboats
Alleppey/Allapuzha - also known as "Venice of the East" is a beautiful city that's most famous for its houseboat cruises along the backwaters, canals and lagoons of Kerala. This beautiful place also hosts India's famous snake water boat race on the Punnamada lake around the Onam festival. Alleppey has larger but busiest backwaters when compared to Kumarakom (that has calmer and narrow backwaters)

Snake Water Race
The snake boat race is held annually in around Onam festival at Punnamada lake, Alleypey. The vibrant atmosphere make it a one of its kind of boat race in India. The rowers sing song to the rhythm of the oars. The most famous of the boat races is the Nehru Trophy boat race that is held on second Saturday of every August. Expect a large crowd, including both local and international tourists during this time
Ambalapuzha Sree krishna Temple
This temple is one of Kerala's seven great temples of Travancore. The temple highlights the traditional Kerala style of architecture with a beautiful pond. The sweet rice pudding offered at this temple is most popular and most delicious. Do not miss to check the dress code before visitting this temple
St. Mary's Forane Church
This is one of the oldest churches of Kerala and its accessible by boat (preferrably when staying more than 2 Days on the boat house). The unique location of the church by the river provides a scenic view. This church appeared in many South Indian movies - Not to miss, the famous Tamil movie 'VTV'
